Areas of Instruction and Eligibility
Lessons are available in the areas of piano, voice, guitar, violin and viola and cello. Eligibility is as follows:

Location
All lessons are held on the campus of Jacksonville State University in Mason Hall. The teacher and student will meet for the first lesson in the breezeway of Mason Hall, after which the teacher will walk the student to a departmental practice room used for teaching. The student will thereafter meet the teacher in the practice room. Parents are welcomed to observe the lessons anytime. A lounge is available in the department for parents.

Parking
Students and parents should park near Mason Hall on Coffee Circle in spaces painted white. Any space painted white on the university campus is available for parking.

Scheduling
Twelve private lessons will be scheduled during the semester. The lessons occur weekly during after school hours or on weekends. The teacher will contact you within two weeks of application deadline to determine a time and day of the week that is agreeable to both of you. The teacher and student will sign a lesson chart outside of Room 223 following each lesson.

Music Materials
The purchase of music is the responsibility of the student. Teachers will either tell the student/parent which books to buy and where, or buy them for the student and expect reimbursement. Cost should not exceed $20.00 per semester.

Recitals
Student recitals will be presented at the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters. The recitals will take place at the Mason Hall Performance Center.

Special Events
Many concerts are presented through the JSU David L. Walters Department of Music that will enrich the student's understanding of music. Teachers will advise students of these special events, most of which are free.

Absence Policy
Students who must cancel a weekly lesson are requested to give their teacher as much advance notice as possible. Lessons cancelled will be rescheduled at the convenience of the teacher. Lessons cancelled by the teacher will be rescheduled at a time agreed upon by both parties. Cancellation and rescheduling is only allowed twice per semester. There will be no rescheduling past this limit, only the resuming of weekly lessons.
