The primary purpose of the Jazz Studies program at JSU is to
provide all interested students with an opportunity to perform and learn the art
of jazz music and improvisation. Jazz is one of our most creative art forms and
its study can be invaluable in the growth and development of all performers and
educators alike. Any student, regardless of major, may take a jazz class or
perform in an ensemble and it is our hope, that everyone takes an interest in
learning more about America’s greatest art form, Jazz.
JSU Jazz Ensembles provide students with the opportunity to
develop skills associated with performance in the jazz idiom while performing a
wide variety of contemporary and traditional jazz compositions. The Jazz
Ensembles offer all JSU students, music and non-majors alike, the opportunity to
perform in jazz groups of recognized excellence.
The
Jazz Studies program is pleased to announce the
addition of a Jazz Certificate designed to give interested students
a more in depth study of jazz music and provide them with
the foundations for a more successful performing and
teaching career. This certificate is also attainable by
any academic discipline at JSU, music or other.
