Teresa Stricklin, soprano, joined the JSU Music faculty in fall of 2001 as a voice instructor. She also serves as the vocal coach for the yearly musical produced jointly by the drama and music departments. Since her recent arrival, she has also taught Introduction to Music, required by Jacksonville State University as one of its core curriculum courses and Class Voice. Mrs. Stricklin currently performs with University groups as soprano soloist.

Mrs. Stricklin received a Bachelor of Arts degree in vocal performance with a minor in drama from Jacksonville State University and a Master of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. She also has a background in radio and television communication from Jacksonville State University. While at Jacksonville State University, Mrs. Stricklin studied with the Dean of the College of Music and Fine Arts, Dr. Dan Marsengil. While at the University of Louisville, she studied with Edith Davis Tidwell.

Mrs. Stricklin performs regularly as a soprano soloist in concerts, recitals and church performances locally. She has performed with the Alabama Symphony, the Atlanta Pops Symphony and was a district finalist for the Metropolitan Opera auditions. Her lecture/recitals include Birmingham Southern College and Southern Union State Community College. Her performance background includes lyric soprano roles in opera and musical theatre. At the conclusion of her year of service as Miss Alabama 1978, she performed in two Miss America USO tours, one to Germany and Iceland and the other to Southeast Asia. She has also performed in the Soviet Union as soloist for the Norcross High School band.

Prior to joining the Music department, Mrs. Stricklin enjoyed a public relations career with Jacksonville State University for fifteen years. She also enjoys being a TV commercial spokesperson and has been seen for the past twenty years on local and regional TV.
